PROFILE OF WCPU ( WORLD COUNCIL OF POWER UTILITIES )
In the field of power as on today, there is comptetion as well as interdependence. The world is divided into two distinct areas- developed and the developing - sofar as the electric power development is concerned.
The developed countries have the technology, financial resources and expertise for power capacity additions, their operation and maintaienance in an effecient and environmental friendly manner. The developing countries on the other hand, provide an exceptionally growing market for power development, specially in the wake of their liberalization endeavour. The trend is therefore most suitable for a very close interaction between the developed and the developing countries for mutual formulation of solutions through exchange of ideas and information.
With this objective in view, the World Council of Power Utilities (WCPU) established in 1995 offers an excellent opportunity to the power utilities of the world for such interaction.
The council has been mainly formed to evolve solutions for the problems connected with power sector. The important attribute of this Council is that it is an association of power development business, namely desingner, consultants, manufacturers, investors, policymakers and environmentalists.
| The Major Objectives of the Council are

| Sharing of experiences of major manufacturers of power plant equipment, engineering consulatants, academician, environmentalists and leading utilities in the world in the area of eco- friendly power generation.

| Discussions by way of International Conferences at regular intervals regarding technologies advancements for conventional and non - conventional power sources in the area of improved efficiency and environment.
|
| Developing closer working relationship between experts from manufacturers and utilities and all other concerned through personal interaction.
|
| Assessment of problems and formulation of solution through interchange of ideas in order to strive for economically, socially and environmentally sustainable power development strategies for sustainable power development.

| Membership : Membership is open to power utilities, individuals & organizations of all countries, connected with electricity generation, transmission, distributions, financing, equipment manufacture, communications, power electronics, etc. in Public / Private sector.

| Organisational Membership :
The organisational membership is open to power utilies/organisations/insitutions from all the countries which are connected with electricity generation, transmission, distribution, financing, equipment manufacturer, communications, power electronics, etc. The membership as admitted by the Council enables the members to nominate two officers from their respective organisations.

| Corresponding Membership :
The corresponding membership is open to persons connected with allied subjects all over the world.
|
| Individual Membership :
The individual membership is open to to any individual associated with the electricity generation, transmission and distribution, communications and electronics, manufacture, financing and management in any country as admitted by the Council. The membership is not transferable.

Membership Fee:
The membership fees is payable on annual basis from 01 April to 31 March. The membership fee for the different categories shall be as below:
1. Individual Membership US$ 100 or equivalent convertible currency.
2. Corresponding Membership US$ 250 or equivalent convertible currency.
3. Organizational Membership US$ 500 or equivalent convertible currency.
The payment by members in India and Nepal shall be in Indian rupees. Payment made by members from other countries shall be in US$ or equivalent convertible currency. The membership fee shall be paid on or before 30 April each year.
The membership enables members to participate in the international conferences/ seminars orgainised by the council at reduced registration fee, besides entitling them to Council publications at concessinal price.

OFFICE BEARERS
The principle office bearers shall be - One president, two vice presidents and one secretary General - Cum - Treasure. The activity of the council shall be looked after by the General Assembly and Governing council.
