Awards Criteria & Eligibility

Unless otherwise specified, the Awards apply to Organizations and not Individuals.  For every award category the credentials up to end of Financial Year 2010 (i.e. 31st March 2010) will be considered for the eligibility.
Awardees of the India Power Awards 2009 are requested not to apply for the same initiative in India Power Awards 2010.

1. Overall Utility Performance

Organizations that have (i) performed exceptionally well and have set new benchmarks for other industry players, (ii) promoted/implemented improved techniques and practices at the operational level and (iii) have sustained improved performance over a period of time.
Includes: -

  • Public and private utility companies under the legislative framework of the electricity sector
  • Who are engaged in: -

  • Generation, transmission and distribution segments of the electricity sector. Also includes power trading companies in the sector. 
  •  

    2. Research and Technology

    Organizations who have demonstrated leadership in promoting new research and technology in the power sector
    Includes:-

  • Public and private companies, utility/non-utility companies, academic institutes, research and development centres and laboratories or any other company, institute or agency working in the power sector
  •  Who are engaged in:-     

  • New and advanced technologies in generation, transmission and distribution segments of the power sector including metering technologies, data measurement and recording technologies
  • Development of new and improved materials, processes, and technologies to enhance efficiencies
  • New research and technology applications related to use of renewable energy including wind and solar energy sub-sectors



  • 3. Innovations in Design and Execution of Projects

    Organizations who have demonstrated excellence in design and execution of projects implemented in the power sector (only successfully completed and operational projects will be considered)
    Includes:-


  • Public and private utility/non-utility companies engaged in the Generation, transmission, distribution segments of the electricity sector
  • Equipment suppliers, contractors, construction companies, EPC players, manufacturers, and other solution providers
  • Any other agency involved in design and execution of large projects in the power sector including Consultants.
  • Who are engaged in:-


  • Innovation in design and/or execution of hydro, thermal or renewable energy based projects
  • Innovation in design and execution of large transmission and/or distribution segment related projects


  • 4. Innovative initiatives in Use of New and Renewable Energy Sources

    Organizations/institutions that have worked towards advancing the development and deployment of renewable/clean energy especially solar energy, hence reducing the environmental impact of electricity generation and increasing energy independence.
    Includes:-


  • Public and private companies, utility/non-utility companies engaged in power generation, transmission and distribution, developers, utility/non-utility companies, NGOs, communities, groups and associations, academic and other institutions, any other government and non-government agencies working in this field
  •  Who are engaged in:-

  • Development and/or implementation of projects based on new and renewable energy sources i.e. solar, wind, bio-mass, small hydro etc and other renewable energy applications


  • 5. Energy Efficiency, Conservation and Demand Side Management

    Organizations, which have promoted the use of energy efficient techniques and practices and/or promoted/implemented energy conservation and demand side management programs.
    Includes: -

  • Public and private companies, utility/non-utility companies, Energy Service Companies (ESCOs), distribution franchisees, NGOs, communities, groups and associations, commercial complexes, academic and other institutions, any other government and non-government agencies working in this field
  • Who are engaged in:-


  • Implementation of cost-effective demand side management and conservation solutions aimed at reducing energy consumption/wastage.
  • Advocacy and awareness about energy efficiency and related aspects
  • Reduction of carbon foot print and environmental impact in the context of power sector


  • 6. Social and Community Impact

    Organizations, which by their work, initiatives or actions in the power sector have made an impact on the community and society
    Includes: -

  • Public and private companies, utility/non-utility companies, grameen banks, cooperatives, distribution franchisees, NGOs, communities, groups and associations, franchisees, academic and other institutions, any other government and non-government agencies working in this field
  • Who are engaged in:-

  • Enhancing access to electricity
  • Improvement in physical infrastructure or services
  • Advocacy and awareness
  • Resettlement and rehabilitation


  • 7. Making a difference at the grassroots (for Individuals only)

    Individuals working at the grassroots levels in utility/non-utility companies who have been responsible for bringing innovative practices in utility/non-utility functioning and taking initiatives towards improving performance, with special emphasis on contribution of women in superior service delivery.
    Who are engaged in:-

  • Improvement in the processes and practices at the grassroots level aimed at improving the overall performance and functioning
  • Implementation of cost-effective solutions at the ground level including demand side management solutions aimed at reducing energy consumption/wastage.
  • Increasing awareness at the ground level


  • 8. Innovative Financing

    Organizations involved in financial and commercial innovation, development of innovative business models, public private participation programs/models, micro-financing, etc in the field of power sector
    Includes:

  • Public and private companies, utility/non-utility companies, service providers, equipment manufacturers and contractors, corporations, cooperatives, NGOs, communities, groups and associations, societies, franchisees, academic and other institutions, any other government and non-government agencies working in the power sector or related fields
  • Who are engaged in: -

  • Any service provision related to power sector including rural electrification
  • Implementation of community participation and cooperative models for providing services in the power sector
  • Policy advocacy and capacity building initiatives
  • Innovative way of revenue collection


  • 9. Innovative IT and Metering Applications

    Organizations who have adopted and implemented new and innovative IT applications aimed at (i) improving their internal functioning and process efficiency which have led to a measurable impact on the success of their business, and/or; (ii) improving customer service and interface.
    Includes:-

  • Public and private utility/non-utility companies engaged in the Generation, transmission, distribution segments of the electricity sector
  • Other service providers in the power sector including distribution franchisees
  • Equipment suppliers, manufacturers, and other solution providers including IT Industry.
  • Who are engaged in:-

  • Innovative IT applications targeted at improving internal processes and practices and efficiency improvement
  • Innovative IT based techniques to reduce transmission and distribution losses and curb theft and pilferage of power
  • Advanced metering at all levels i.e. input, interface and consumer end
  • Implementation of IT based control techniques and applications
  • Providing services to a designated set of consumers
  • Any other innovative IT practice/solution in the indicated segments of the electricity sector
